Baylor College of Medicine

Human Resources Internship Program

About the Program

Baylor College of Medicine, department of Human Resources, hosts an unpaid Human Resources Internship program. This program is open year round, and is intended to provide students the opportunity to become familiar with the functions of the Human Resource department at Baylor.

This program is open to upper level undergraduate and graduate students. The internship is unpaid and must be taken for course credit. Selected participants are responsible for securing their own housing and transportation. Successful interns will be available for a minimum of 24 hours per week, usually consisting of at least three 8-hour workdays per week. Work hours are flexible, but should fall in line with typical business hours. The length of the internship will be dependent upon the requirements of the school, which typically follow the semester begin/end date. Generally, we require no less than a 10-week commitment.

Internship Preceptors

An experienced Human Resources professional who is interested in mentoring interns will serve as a preceptor. He or she will be responsible for the education and development of the intern, and will provide supervision and guidance. The preceptor will be chosen based on the intern's area of interest.

Program Structure

The intern will be assigned one or two major projects to be completed over the course of the internship. It is highly likely opportunities will arise to work on side projects with other sections within the Human Resources Department. These sections include:

  • Benefits
  • Compensation
  • Employee Records
  • Employee Relations
