Mentor Training for Faculty
Optimizing Mentoring Relationships. Faculty have the opportunity to develop core mentoring skills through this evidence-based training developed on the Entering Mentoring curriculum. Each year, several day-long and shorter training sessions are led by BCM faculty trained as facilitators with the NIH-funded National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN). Skills and topics covered include: effective communication, aligning expectations, fostering independence, promoting professional development, and promoting self-efficacy. Completing the core training is recognized as completing evidence-based mentor training, which is viewed favorably by NIH and NSF training-focused funding.
Faculty Development offers one-on-one sessions with experienced senior faculty coaches. These sessions are designed to provide guidance on career progression and readiness for academic promotion Contact the Office of Faculty Development at (713) 798-7285 for scheduling.
