Mentor Training for Faculty
Optimizing Mentoring Relationships. Faculty have the opportunity to develop core mentoring skills through this evidence-based training developed on the Entering Mentoring curriculum. Each year, several day-long and shorter training sessions are led by BCM faculty trained as facilitators with the NIH-funded National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN). Skills and topics covered include: effective communication, aligning expectations, fostering independence, promoting professional development, and promoting self-efficacy. Completing the core training is recognized as completing evidence-based mentor training, which is viewed favorably by NIH and NSF training-focused funding.
