Henry J.N. Taub & James K. Alexander Medical Student Research Symposium

Content

The Henry J.N. Taub & James K. Alexander Medical Student Research Symposium was established in 2000 to provide a formal mechanism in which Baylor College of Medicine medical students can present meaningful research in either clinical or basic science disciplines. It was founded by Dr. James K. Alexander who served as Baylor faculty member from 1954 until 2007, in his last years as chief of cardiology. He was also a passionate educator and accomplished researcher who not only financially supported, but also personally oversaw the symposium organization.

The purpose of the Henry J.N. Taub Young Investigator Award is to support young clinical investigators in their research projects. The endowment was funded by multiple donors through fundraising efforts of Mr. David Scoular in 1993 and has been awarded annually since then; since 2007 it has been given to stellar medical students in conjunction with the James K. Alexander Medical Student Research Symposium.

Today, the Henry J.N. Taub & James K. Alexander Research Day is an important and prestigious venue for BCM medical students to present their research and discuss their findings with other Baylor students and faculty; for many it is their first formal opportunity to communicate their research data to other professionals and receive feedback.

The symposium also aims to inspire medical students with accounts from highly accomplished clinical, translational, basic science, and educator researchers through sharing anecdotes, accomplishments, and foremost visions to which medical students may relate and adapt.
