Professional Statement
Hi, I'm Brianna and I am originally from Atlanta, GA. I graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Duke University in 2015. As an undergraduate, I volunteered at a psychiatric hospital and for Cure Finders 4 Cystic Fibrosis. After graduation, I moved to Boston where I worked in client support at two clinical genetic testing laboratories (Claritas Genomics and Invitae), gaining exposure to the field and solidifying my dream to become a genetic counselor. I also volunteered at Exhale, providing peer counseling to individuals with abortion experiences. I’m drawn to genetic counseling due to my desire to support patients through their genetics journey with compassion and education. I am also looking forward to the lifelong learning that comes with working in this rapidly evolving field. I chose to study at BCM due its renowned genetics department (the largest in the country!), the exciting research at the Undiagnosed Diseases Network, and the incredibly diverse patient population of Houston. It is not about finding opportunities here, but instead choosing which ones to pursue. Outside of school, I love to bake, read, run, and spoil my dog. If you have any questions about the genetic counseling program at BCM or life in Houston, please let me know!
