From my experience as a prior employee and now graduate student, I view BCM as the leading institution for genetic innovation, translational research, and patient care. I appreciate the balanced curriculum in the genetic counseling program as it incorporates advanced genetics concepts, psychosocial elements, and the opportunity to work on innovative research projects.

For my thesis project, I am investigating the transition from pediatric to adult health care for individuals with Urea Cycle Disorders (UCDs). In this patient population, limited information is known on the pediatric to adult transition readiness or transition outcome. Ascertaining the experiences, needs, and barriers to the transition process experienced by patients with UCDs will provide insight into the current state of transition among this population.
