About Us
The Center for Space Medicine emphasizes discovery and innovation in high-priority areas of space biomedical science and technology. The center fosters biomedical discovery, advances the field of space medicine, trains scientists and physicians and translates space advances to benefit health on Earth. It is a collaborative enterprise involving multiple Baylor College of Medicine departments and centers, the National Space Biomedical Research Institute, NASA, Rice University, Texas Medical Center institutions, and other national and international academic, industry and government organizations.
Center Director
Jeffrey P. Sutton, M.D., Ph.D., Friedkin professor and founding director of the Center for Space Medicine, is also chair of the board of the Translational Research Institute for Space Health.
Translational Research Institute for Space Health
This NASA-sponsored institute leads a national effort in translating cutting-edge emerging research into applied risk mitigation strategies for human space exploration.
Space Medicine Pathway
This unique educational pathway offers elective courses and research opportunities for undergraduate medical students interested in space medicine.
Research
We offer research training opportunities to Baylor College of Medicine students, residents and fellows. Research projects take place across many Baylor departments.
Consolidated Research Facility
The Consolidated Research Facility contains 16,400 square feet of state-of-the-art laboratory, office and meeting space for collaborative research in space medicine.
