TRISH is committed to increasing the presence of diverse investigators driving the science it funds, as well as increasing the applicability of this research to diverse groups of people. In April of 2021, TRISH established its Diversity Advisory Board (DAB) consisting of outstanding thought leaders to provide strategic guidance. The Institute pledges to invest a significant portion of its annual research funding to the TRISH Diversity Program, under the counsel of the Diversity Advisory Board.

The insights they have based on their experiences in STEM research, education, and DEI have been invaluable to us in understanding how TRISH can create opportunities for different types of investigators, and to increase diversity in all that we do at the institute," said Jordan Lewis, TRISH diversity co-lead. "Our DAB is absolutely key to the success of our diversity program in making a difference in the space health community.”
The DAB advises on the strategic direction and tactical implementation of the Institute’s diversity program, participates in the prospecting and execution of new initiatives targeted toward underrepresented populations of researchers and entrepreneurs, makes recommendations for partnerships for TRISH, and disseminates information about the Institute’s Diversity Program to communities unfamiliar with space health.

Making space for everybody
As part of TRISH and its Diversity Advisory Board’s work to increase engagement from underrepresented groups in the field of space health research, TRISH launched a research instrument to better understand where we are today. This project included surveys and interviews with researchers. The results showed some of the challenges that exist for new-to-the-field and/or diverse investigators face. TRISH is seeking proposals from potential partners ready to innovate and implement strategies to target and increase engagement from diverse populations of researchers and trainees. Interested parties are encouraged to respond to the 2022 Diversity Partnership Solicitation.
