Dear Members of the Baylor College of Medicine Community,
The Rodeo is back on! That tells you a lot about where the Houston community is with COVID. Our case numbers have gone down enough for me to be comfortable with people attending the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. In this week’s video, I go through the math of why I am comfortable – showing you where we are now in terms of infection rates and where we were at the pandemic’s peak.
Another topic in the video is the complications from COVID. I report on a couple of studies to show how COVID has affected those with diabetes. They have been hit hard.
It also seems like a good time to tell you my predictions for what to expect moving forward. I think there will be a lull in the summer and fall, and then we need to watch three areas: waning immunity, lack of a worldwide strategy for vaccinations and the emergence of new variants. We should get ready now for a booster campaign in the fall.
Also this week, I give you a glimpse of how we put together the special effects often used in these videos – an introduction to the behind-the-scenes crew.
