Fellows rotate at each of the following hospitals: Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Hospital, Ben Taub Hospital, Houston Methodist Hospital, and Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital. Each fellow is expected to perform more than 350 procedures, including coronary interventions, tandem heart insertion, alcohol septal ablations, percutaneous aortic valve replacement (TAVI) and a variety of peripheral interventions. At the end of training, fellows will develop skills that will enable them to function as independent interventional operators.
The program gradually increases the fellows' responsibility based on the year of training. Fellows are expected to manage patients independently during the last year of training with commensurate supervision from the faculty physician.
The fellows meet with the program director semi-annually to discuss their progress in training, training plans, and future endeavors in the field of interventional cardiology.
