The Section of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine, comprises more than 135 faculty members practicing primarily at five clinical locations: Harris Health Smith Clinic, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Ben Taub Hospital, Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and Baylor Clinic. We provide a significant service to the College through training medical students, residents, fellows and other graduate students, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide spectrum of diseases that commonly affect adults. The section also has a subspecialization in women’s care.
The section of General Internal Medicine is recognized nationally and internationally for its successful educational programs, innovative patient care, and clinical research. Research activities in the area of general internal medicine also occur in the closely affiliated sections of Health Services Research in the Department of Medicine and the Research division of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Research education includes federally funded primary care research fellowships.
