Amma Asare, M.D., Ph.D

Item Definition

Weill Cornell Medicine

Dr. Asare is a transplant to Houston from the East Coast where she completed a M.D.-Ph.D. in developmental biology and stem cell biology in NYC at the Rockefeller University and Weill Cornell Medicine. Her academic interests include gynecologic oncology, disparities in gynecologic oncology, basic, and translation research. One of the best parts of residency for her is the amazing community of RN’s, patients, OR staff, CNMs, attending and residents at Baylor College of Medicine. Outside of the work Amma likes to read fiction, bike around in the Houston heat and play outdoors with her two kids.

Alexandra Berra, M.D.

Louisiana State University School of Medicine

Dr. Berra is a St. Louis native who received her undergraduate degree in neuroscience from Tulane University and remained in New Orleans to attend Louisiana State University for medical school. Her interests include obstetric infectious disease, maternal substance use, and medical education; she hopes to pursue a career in maternal-fetal medicine. In her free time, Dr. Berra enjoys staying active, running marathons, exploring local culture, and spending time with her family, friends, and kittens.

Dr. Cadena was born and reared in Friendswood, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University for his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering. He went on to receive his medical degree from UT Health San Antonio - Long School of Medicine. His interests include access to medical care, academic medicine, and patient education. In his free time he likes to work out, watch collegiate sports, play with his dogs, and spend time with family and friends.

Beth Cook, M.D.

Dr. Cook received her undergraduate degree from Loyola University New Orleans where she studied Spanish, biology, and women's studies. She returned to her hometown of Houston to complete her medical education at Baylor College of Medicine. In medical school, she was awarded an Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, through which she designed a course curriculum around sexual health for previously incarcerated women, and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Her current clinical interests include family planning and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, exploring Houston restaurants, and traveling.

Jessica Gerard, M.D.

Dr. Gerard grew up in Los Angeles, Calif., before heading east to Davidson College in North Carolina where she received a bachelor of arts degree in art History and chemistry. She continued her North Carolina adventure at Wake Forest School of Medicine where she earned her medical degree. Throughout her education she cultivated passions for global health, family planning, and preventative sexual health education that she plans to continue at Baylor. Outside the world of OB/GYN she enjoys yoga, cooking Blue Apron recipes, balancing her packed TV schedule, and being a cat mom.

Jessica Floyd, M.D. 

Item Definition

University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine

Dr. Floyd received a bachelor of science in exercise physiology from Texas A&M University. Her medical degree was completed at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She decided to stay in Texas and join us at Baylor for completion of her OBGYN residency. She is applying for a fellowship position in gynecologic oncology. She has an interest in translational research, and has also completed projects in oncofertility and PARP therapy in ovarian cancer patients. Her interests outside of work include marathon running, hiking, reading and cooking anything from the New York Times cooking app.

Sara Moufarrij, M.D. 

Item Definition

American University of Beirut Faculty of Medicine

Dr. Moufarrij was born in Maryland and reared in Dubai, Switzerland, Turkey, South Korea, and Miami. She obtained her undergraduate degree in international politica and pre-med from Georgetown University and completed her medical degree at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. Prior to the start of residency, she conducted translational research and epigenetics and ovarian cancer at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Her clinical interests range from gynecology oncology to high risk pregnancies. In her free time, she loves to play and watch tennis, swim, learn languages, and travel the world.

Dr. Patel graduated from University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. His clinical interests include gynecology oncology and high risk pregnancy. In his spare time he likes to run, watch movies, wood burn, and read.

Allison Sellner, M.D.

Dr. Sellner received her bachelor of arts degree in medical humanities from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Sic ‘Em Bears! She attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine and is ecstatic to be staying at her home program for residency. Her clinical interests include obesity in pregnancy, postpartum care, reproductive psychiatry, medical ethics, and medical education. In her free time, she enjoys spinning and working out, traveling, cooking, and exploring the Houston food scene.

Lena Shay, M.D.

Ohio State University College of Medicine 

Dr. Shay received her bachelors of science in biology from Ohio Northern University and subsequently earned her medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine. During her time at OSU, she studied the effects of prenatal stress exposure on placental gene expression, as well as designed and implemented an educational session for medical students in obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound. Her interests within obstetrics and gynecology include prenatal stress and preterm birth, ultrasound, and medical education. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring the Houston art scene, trying new restaurants, watching football, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Ghanshyam Yadav, M.D. 

Item Definition

Topiwala National Medical College

Dr. Yadav was born and reared in Mumbai, India. He finished his medical school training from Topiwala National Medical College and BYL Nair Hospital, Mumbai. Throughout his medical school training, he has been awarded various scholarships for academic excellence. He completed a year-long research fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Yale University, where he studied novel chemotherapeutic targets for uterine cancers. He has also worked on devising low resource, high impact public health solutions based on Health and Cloud computing with Harvard University, UNICEF and Government of India. He has been the president of RC Caduceus, one of Asia’s largest NGO’s of medical students. His academic interests lie in reproductive endocrinology, gynecologic oncology, global health and in improving access and quality of healthcare. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, deep sea diving, cooking and photography.

Dr. Yadav was born and reared in Lubbock, Texas. She attended Rice University, where she studied kinesiology with an emphasis on health sciences. She went on to receive her medical degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she developed a passion for women’s health. In her free time, she enjoys binge-watching TV shows, shopping, and attending Pilates classes.
