The BCM Surgical Pathology fellowship provides ample opportunity to work on many complex cases, in-depth learning about routine cases, and to enjoy the challenges of rare cases. Although this fellowship is directed on advanced training in general surgical pathology, it provides experiences and research opportunities in various areas of subspecialty. This fellowship provides training in all the major areas of surgical pathology, preparing trainees for career in an academic or a private practice setting. In addition, the fellow has an option for focused subspecialty training in the fields of breast, gynecologic and gastrointestinal pathology. Interest in subspecialty training must be expressed at the time of interview.
Strengths of the fellowship include volume and variety of cases including challenging consult cases and transplant specimens, graduated responsibility involving frozen sections, pre-dictating clinical cases, monitoring and mentoring residents and medical students, as well as opportunities for clinical research.
