Cystitis

Master
Content

Cystitis is an inflammation or infection of the bladder.

Symptoms

Symptoms include burning or pain at the time of urination, frequent urination, fever, incontinence, pressure in the lower abdomen, strong-smelling urine, or bleeding.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is made with an analysis of the urine, including culture and sensitivity tests.

Treatment

Treatment for cystitis, as for most urinary tract infections, depends on the patient's general health and the bacteria found in a urine test. Antibiotics are the first line of treatment. Symptoms of these infections usually clear up within a few days of treatment, but the treatment course recommended usually lasts a week or more. Repeated infections may require a longer course of antibiotic treatment.
